Support aspiring and emerging fashion designers when Dayton Threads independent fashion boutique relaunches July 2024 and apply to sell your designs with us today!
Staying true to the (DE-FI) Brand, Cincinnati and Dayton Threads is disrupting the fashion industry and re(DE-FI)ing mundane ideas of what it means to shop small and supporting independent designers and artisans. Cincinnati and Dayton Threads are hands-on engaging independent fashion boutique that serves both designers in Dayton Fashion Week and The Cincinnati Fashion Incubator; as well as independent designers and creators across the country who are looking to expand their audience.
Independent Fashion Designers and Creators come first! From casual to avant-garde, Cincinnati and Dayton Threads is looking to work with independent designers across multiple product categories including clothing, jewelry, accessories. Your brand deserves more than the typical trip to the store accidental find or the" I stumbled across this website and..." story. Every aspect of both Cincinnati Threads and Dayton Threads is intentional; we are committed to giving you and your brand the fully immersive fashion experience that you deserve while helping you build your brand, team, and audience!
We offer independent designers (2) flexible and competitive fee structures as well:
1) Receive the full retail price of any products sold via Cincinnati or Dayton Threads minus commission of 25%.
and
2) Pay a $25/mo and receive the full retail price of any products sold via Cincinnati or Dayton Threads minus commission of 10%.
If you need help with producing your sewn designs, we offer small batch micro-manufacturing too. Our Made Here...Sold Here model serves to strengthen our commitment of becoming a leading retail source for independent and ethical designers via our online and brick and mortar presence.
If you're in need of help with high-end look-book, ad campaign, editorial, or e-commerce images and videos for your line...We've got you covered there too! We offer the entire fashion industry under one roof with our sister company The House of (DE-FI)ance: A Fashion & Design Co-working Experience.
We also offer micro-manufacturing services as well via the Dayton Garment & Textile District.
We are trend setters and we're ready to make the world our runway! Designers in our incubators are tasked with developing the demographic of their target customer which includes annual income, what they do for a living, where they are going, how much money they are willing to spend on clothing, etc. Cincinnati and Dayton Threads is where designers are able to test their designs in their target market to confirm whether they are reaching their target customer and make adjustments accordingly and because of this, Cincinnati and Dayton Threads is our least consistent program and the hardest program for some customers to understand and shop simply because Dayton Threads operates in a manner where we are expecting failure in some form.
Consider Cincinnati and Dayton Threads as a classroom and experiment where the talent in our incubators:
1) Develop a hypothesis (designs, target audience, target market) for their brand.
2) Gather all of the tools and resources needed to test their hypothesis
Often times the designers test run fails, they missed their mark. Sometimes even when the designers in our incubator finds success and gets the desired outcome, they struggle with duplicating that success. The Threads' platform is designed for our talent to make their mistakes, learn, grow, and retry until they are consistent with achieving the desired outcome. So bear with us as the designers work to develop better descriptions for their designs and become better story tellers about their brand. The items for sale may not be perfectly described just yet, rest assured as the designers continue to develop, you'll see the difference.
In a world of fast fashion, patience is a virtue when attempting to shop with us, and yes, we said attempting. We aren't able to serve everyone who comes to us for designs, especially when it comes to custom work; sometimes we don't have any products available for sale. Each one of our designers are in different stages of their careers and development. The ideal customer for custom designs is someone that is planning ahead for a special occasion, vacation, event, or they simply just have a unique style of their own and are preparing to update their wardrobe! On average, from the time of the initial consultation with the designer, it will take 6-8 weeks and sometimes more to deliver the finished product.
Believe us when we say, when our talent figures it out, they knock it out of the park, and the customer is fully satisfied. Cincinnati and Dayton Threads is where independent designers and creators come to thrive and our customers are a part of their success stories! Slow Fashion is the name of our game...and as you know...good things come to those who wait! Our focus is ensuring a quality experience with quality products. Quality wins out every day over quantity.

If you desire expert alterations and tailoring on your clothing, why not bring it to someone who knows how to change the structure of clothing... someone who designs garments??
No Refunds:All sales are final. Rush orders for last minute changes may be available for additional fees
Alterations: Are by appointment Only
Cleaning: We do not clean garments
Creating Your Garment(s):To begin the process of having a garment created for you by a designer/seamstress/tailor, you will start with a one-time free consultation with a designer of your choosing to discuss your needs for the garment ie style, occasion, budget, and date garment is needed. Once details have been discussed, finalized, and agreed to, the process of creating your garment will begin.
A 25% deposit will be required in order for all garments to be started. This will cover the cost of buying the needed fabric and supplies for your garment. If you are having a custom design made, additional consultations may be needed in determining design and/or pattern selection which is included in your 25% deposit. Once your fabric has been purchased and/or pattern selected, another 25% deposit is due for the designer to begin constructing your garment.
Fittings: Customers are expected to make themselves available for all fittings and alterations when reasonably required and should be prepared to attend between two to four fittings depending on the complexity of the design. These dates will be determined during the initial consultation. The need for a 3rd and/or 4th fitting will be determined at the 2nd fitting. Both the designer and client agree that should a need arise to reschedule a fitting a 48 hour notice must be given.
The first fittingshould take place approximately 6 weeks before the date that you need your garment. The first fitting will give you the opportunity to see how the garment fits on you and allow the designer/seamstress/tailor to determine needed alterations. Always bring any accessories like shoes and or undergarments that you plan to wear with the garment for your fitting; this is important because they will play a role in how the garment fits on you. Confirm that the garment is the exact style, color, and size that you requested before the first fitting with the designer/seamstress/tailor. Closely examine any embellishments ie embroidery, buttons, beading, lace, etc to make sure there are no flaws in your garment.
A second fitting should take place approximately 4 weeks before the date that you need your garment. Remember to bring the same accessories and/or undergarments that you wore for the first fitting. The purpose of the second fitting is to allow the designer/seamstress/tailor to see how the alterations made after the first fitting look on you. Generally, the second fitting is primarily used to identify any minor alterations that may be needed for your garment. Unless the designer/seamstress/tailor has identified some additional alterations that need to be made the next fitting will be your last. Therefore, don’t be shy about voicing any concerns you have about the way your garment looks or feels on you.
The final fitting should take place one week after the second fitting. Before the final fitting you should prepare a list of questions you may have such as how to care for the garment, the best way to store it and etc. This will be your last opportunity to voice any concerns before the garment is ready to go home with you should no additional alterations or fittings be needed. Any additional work past the 4th fitting will have an additional fee attached after this point.
Try on your garment at least one more time to make sure everything looks great before you leave. We do NOT have a last minute on call designer/seamstress/tailor to make any additional adjustments.
Delivery of Garment: the remaining balance is due on the original delivery date selected prior to the garment being constructed. All merchandise with outstanding balances and/or are not picked up by the delivery date become the property of (DE-FI) Global INC and will be subject to immediate sale at Dayton Threads.
Changes in Size and/or Body Shape: After the sales order contract has been signed and order placed. Dayton Threads CANNOT AND WILL NOT accept any responsibility in respect to any changes which may occur in the customer’s size and body shape. Please note that if customers have significant changes in body shape or weight following the sales order being placed it is their responsibility to inform Dayton Threads immediately.

Aside from allowing designers to test their market, designers also need hands-on experience working at boutiques.
