An Indie Boutique for Indie Fashion, Creators, and Designers

Sell Your Work Today! Online Boutique Coming Soon.

Dayton Threads

Dayton Threads is an immersive fashion, retail, and online boutique experience established in 2017 by (DE-FI). Located inside of the Dayton Mall, we specialize in high quality, indie fashion and emerging designer clothing, accessories, homeware, art, and more, we give our customers direct access to the next big thing in fashion and design. We are a unique retail lab, showroom, and boutique business that creates an innovative online and brick and mortar shopping experience for our customers while promoting and supporting the finest independent fashion and design talent from across the country. Our brick & mortar location is open by appointment only.

When you come into a store front, it might not look like much, you'll see mostly sample pieces from designers in the Designer Incubator that can be made to order based on your measurements or individual one of a kind designs by other non-incubator designers and creators that are sold as is.  With the exception of jewelry and art work, Dayton Threads is not the kind of boutique that you'll walk into pick up a garment off the rack, purchase, and walk out with the item at the same time.  If you are getting a custom made piece or having a sample made just for you, it can take 6-8 weeks and that's if the designer has the availability/capacity to take your order and your order aligns with their goals and niche. Our designers have peak times where it's nearly impossible at times to get a consultation, so patience and understanding is a must.  The price points for the various designs featured in Dayton Threads will vary based on the designer as well.

Staying true to the (DE-FI) Brand, Dayton Threads is disrupting the fashion industry and re(DE-FI)ing mundane ideas of what it means to shop small and supporting independent designers and artisans.   Many of the designers featured at Dayton Threads are a part of the Designer Incubator and are still learning the ins and outs of the industry, so bear with us as the designers work to develop better descriptions for their designs and become better story tellers about their brand. The items for sale may not be perfectly described just yet, rest assured as the designers continue to develop, you'll see the difference.  One of the roles that our Designer Incubator play is for the designers to test their target market to confirm whether they're reaching their target customer and to make adjustments accordingly.

In short, while we are based in Dayton, OH designers who sell their work with us specifically those who are in the Designer Incubator may have target customers that are not Dayton based or even Midwest based which is for the most part reflected in their pricing.  Designers in our incubator are tasked with developing the demographics of their target customer which includes annual income, what they do for a living, where they are going, how much money are they willing to spend on clothing, etc.

We work to promote and empower emerging talent, while showcasing a curated selection of their products in a stylish yet ethically and environmentally conscious fashion community. We also offer micro-manufacturing at our store front location giving designers hands on quality control over their products. Customers can also receive alterations on site if a look doesn't quite fit right, as well as having customized pieces made just for you based on availability.

A Brick & Mortar and Online Boutique Shopping Experience

Why Shop With US?

Dayton Threads is where independent creators come to thrive and our customers are a part of their success stories! Our forward thinking fashion and design space has created a shopping experience like no other.  Like you, we are tired of being bombarded with social media ads for the latest designs that are often misleading or stores that sale the exact same product from the exact same vendor.  We understand that there is more to being an independent designer than just screen printed t-shirts or pillow that were purchased in bulk. We are trend setters and we're ready to make the world our runway!

With a focus on supporting independent and emerging creators, the majority of our products are made to order meaning, our shoppers are planning ahead for a special occasion, vacation, event, or they simply just have a unique style of their own and are preparing to update their wardrobe! On average, from the time of the initial consultation with the designer, it will take 6-8 weeks and sometimes more to deliver the finished product. #SlowFashion is the name of our game...and as you know...good things come to those who wait!   Our focus is ensuring a quality experience with quality products. Quality wins out every day over quantity.

We celebrate artists who create and make their creations right here in the U.S.A. using ethical practices and livable wages; we also offer our own micro-manufacturing services as an additional service.  Dayton Threads is committed to bringing you nothing but high quality and unique styles from emerging designers.  Plus we're making a conscious effort to vet our designers, their products, and brand to ensure that every transaction is open, honest, and transparent.  All designs and products sold via Dayton Threads are entirely made in our designer’s studio and/or by an artisan team of 10 people or less selected by the designer.

Our retail model re(DE-FI)nes the "fashion experience" a term that was coined by (DE-FI) in 2013 and refocuses on longevity in the age of fast-fashion. Designs sold at Dayton Threads will stand the test of time, are made in small production runs with enduring materials. We're not interested in trends.  All of the emphasis is on the designer, plus if you don't find what you are looking for, we can custom make a look just for you bringing your style story and uniqueness to life.

Custom Designs/Alteration Agreement

Design Process

If you desire expert alterations and tailoring on your clothing, why not bring it to someone who knows how to change the structure of clothing... someone who designs garments??

No Refunds: All sales are final. Rush orders for last minute changes may be available for additional fees

Alterations: Are by appointment Only

Cleaning: We do not clean garments

Creating Your Garment(s): To begin the process of having a garment created for you by a designer/seamstress/tailor, you will start with a one-time free consultation with a designer of your choosing to discuss your needs for the garment ie style, occasion, budget, and date garment is needed. Once details have been discussed, finalized, and agreed to, the process of creating your garment will begin.

A 25% deposit will be required in order for all garments to be started. This will cover the cost of buying the needed fabric and supplies for your garment. If you are having a custom design made, additional consultations may be needed in determining design and/or pattern selection which is included in your 25% deposit. Once your fabric has been purchased and/or pattern selected, another 25% deposit is due for the designer to begin constructing your garment.

Fittings: Customers are expected to make themselves available for all fittings and alterations when reasonably required and should be prepared to attend between two to four fittings depending on the complexity of the design. These dates will be determined during the initial consultation. The need for a 3rd and/or 4th fitting will be determined at the 2nd fitting. Both the designer and client agree that should a need arise to reschedule a fitting a 48 hour notice must be given.

The first fitting should take place approximately 6 weeks before the date that you need your garment. The first fitting will give you the opportunity to see how the garment fits on you and allow the designer/seamstress/tailor to determine needed alterations. Always bring any accessories like shoes and or undergarments that you plan to wear with the garment for your fitting; this is important because they will play a role in how the garment fits on you.   Confirm that the garment is the exact style, color, and size that you requested before the first fitting with the designer/seamstress/tailor. Closely examine any embellishments ie embroidery, buttons, beading, lace, etc to make sure there are no flaws in your garment.

A second fitting should take place approximately 4 weeks before the date that you need your garment. Remember to bring the same accessories and/or undergarments that you wore for the first fitting. The purpose of the second fitting is to allow the designer/seamstress/tailor to see how the alterations made after the first fitting look on you. Generally, the second fitting is primarily used to identify any minor alterations that may be needed for your garment. Unless the designer/seamstress/tailor has identified some additional alterations that need to be made the next fitting will be your last. Therefore, don’t be shy about voicing any concerns you have about the way your garment looks or feels on you.

The final fitting should take place one week after the second fitting. Before the final fitting you should prepare a list of questions you may have such as how to care for the garment, the best way to store it and etc. This will be your last opportunity to voice any concerns before the garment is ready to go home with you should no additional alterations or fittings be needed. Any additional work  past the 4th fitting will have an additional fee attached after this point.

Try on your garment at least one more time to make sure everything looks great before you leave. We do NOT have a last minute on call designer/seamstress/tailor to make any additional adjustments.

Delivery of Garment: the remaining balance is due on the original delivery date selected prior to the garment being constructed. All merchandise with outstanding balances and/or are not picked up by the delivery date become the property of (DE-FI) Global INC and will be subject to immediate sale at Dayton Threads.

Changes in Size and/or Body Shape: After the sales order contract has been signed and order placed. Dayton Threads CANNOT AND WILL NOT accept any responsibility in respect to any changes which may occur in the customer’s size and body shape.   Please note that if customers have significant changes in body shape or weight following the sales order being placed it is their responsibility to inform Dayton Threads immediately.
